When you're stuffing your face with comfort food, don't ignore those interested eyes that are trying to tell you dogs are people too!

Dogs are a part of the majority of households in America and most are considered a member of the family. Commercial treats for these pampered pets are available in every flavor, shape and form but trends are seeing more and more dog guardians cooking for their pet. Some prepare regular homemade diets while others choose to make the occasional treat or snack for their pooch.

A snack is not quite a meal but it constitutes just a little more than a treat. Snacks, as well as treats, should be kept to a minimum but they can add much to your dog’s enjoyment of life. No self-respecting dog guardian would deny his best friend this occasional indulgence. So when you’re stuffing your face with chips and dip or French bread pizza, don’t ignore those interested eyes that are trying to tell you dogs are people too!

The doggy burrito recipe below may be just the thing to keep your dog from disowning you. This recipe also works well when the humans in the house are having one of those luxury weekend breakfasts and the dog is demanding to know why he’s being left out.

Dogurrito

2 eggs

1 wiener sliced

shredded cheese

1 large tortilla

Beat eggs in a bowl while adding wiener slices. Scramble egg and wiener mixture on stovetop, making sure the mixture is fully cooked. Add a light sprinkling of shredded cheese and wrap in the tortilla. If you have the extra time to cook them or have leftovers, you can also add in a small amount of mashed or fried potatoes or hash browns. Cut the burrito into bite size pieces and make sure it is cooled before serving.

If you don’t happen to have any tortillas on hand, a variation of this recipe leaves off the tortilla and simply stirs in dry or slightly buttered toast pieces.

Resist the temptation to add onions, bacon grease, or any kind of seasonings or spices. Remember that these can upset your dog’s tummy and be very dangerous in some cases.

For overweight dogs, leave off the cheese, serve smaller portions, and take a walk afterward. In the interest of optimum health, all dogs should keep snacks and treats to a minimum.

If your dog has any health issues, consult your veterinarian concerning his diet. For pooches on a strict diet, a couple of no-calorie ways to occasionally spoil him is to treat him to a day at a doggy luxury resort or dress him in the latest doggy fashions. Love and attention is almost as good as a treat!
